Image

Top 5 Fridays! 5 TMJ Triggers to Avoid

Image
Part of treating TMD is not only education on pain science, stressors, and the manual therapies/exercises, but avoiding the triggers. We use our mouth/facial muscles much more than you think throughout the day and minimizing triggers is a good way to desensitize this area. Here are 5 TMJ Triggers to Avoid when in the beginning and middle phases of rehab 1) Thinker pose just look at the cover pic for this post it's such a common pose, and often done unilaterally the TMJ is not typically a WB joint and this can further irritate an already sensitized joint it can also cause subluxation of intra-articular discs, and the repeatedly clicking can also irritate the joint solution: avoid it or use fingers on the forehead and zygomatic arch to have a similar pensive pose, but not directly load the TMJ 2) Unilateral Chewing out of habit many people chew on one side more than the other this could either cause ipsilateral irritation or contralateral due to the tilting ...

Untold Physio Stories 109: Clearly Seeing the Cause of Neck Strain

The Easiest Knee Test Ever

Image
After reading research a few years ago stating that one of the best predictors of long term return to sport after ACL surgery was terminal knee extension, I started looking at it more. Not just for patients with post-op conditions, but for those with general knee pain. Many people concentrate on flexion, but for a joint to really be healthy and ready to accept load, full passive ROM/joint play should be restored in all motions. After clearing the lower quarter of other common patterns, lumbar load on involved side, ankle dorsiflexion, tibial IR, etc, if knee pain still lingers, try evaluating and resetting terminal knee extension if there is a loss. For the full 20 min mini case on this Chronic Knee pain after ACL surgery decades ago, check out Modern Manual Therapy Premium ! Massage Therapy Can Reduce the Cost of the National Opioid Crisis

Image
New research indicates the use of massage therapy instead of opioid medication (for conditions where massage is proven effective) can reduce costs to the American economy by up to $25.99 billion annually. These are the results of an economic modeling analysis commissioned by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) 1 . This analysis examines the costs and benefits of replacing opioid pain killers with massage therapy where evidence indicates it is appropriate and effective. The President's Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) estimated that in 2015, the cost of the opioid crisis was $504 billion 2 .   According to the Joint Commission 3 ,   non-pharmacologic approaches such as massage therapy can replace opioids for many types of pain . The number of patients who could be treated either by massage therapy or opioid prescriptions was determined through analysis of data published by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services in a 2015 report 4 . Top 5 Fridays! 5 Ways to Elevate Your Company Culture

Image
From the years of gathering job market data here at UpDoc Media… the talent surveys, our  Amazon Best Selling  Physical Therapy Industry Prospectus, and even in the launch of  HIYER  — we found one thing consistently important to all… regardless of the size, setting, or specialty. What is this one thing? Culture. CULTURE is the #1 reason why people apply for a company and stick with that company. So, with that, let’s get straight to…! 5 Ways To Elevate Your Company’s Culture 1. Stop Rewarding Mediocrity Let’s. Be. Honest. Most companies don’t have well written roles and responsibilities that rewards excellence. More likely than not, job descriptions and the employee handbook are written in a fashion that discourages the bad, but doesn’t necessarily recognize the good. Perhaps an even better perspective on the matter is that most positions are simply rewarded for not rocking the boat by adhering to minimally satisfactory human resource (HR) requirements...

Because I’ve built relationships with these people. I’ve gone around and built relationships with people in my community, in Greensboro. They trust me and want to do business with me. In this video, I explain why those relationships are so important! Want Aaron to help you start a #CashPT practice? Click here to get started! Keeping it Eclectic...
